1. How to get to Gavina Mar From Barcelona airport to Gavina Mar you may take a taxi or train. The taxi is the fastest and most convenient but also the most expensive, taking 40 minutes depending on traffic conditions. As for the train, you need to take the line “R2” from the airport to Barcelona-Sants station. Once there, change to “R1” line to Ocata station which is the closest station to Gavina Mar. Overall it takes a bit longer than one hour. Then you have a 10-15 minute walk from Ocata station to Gavina Mar; the last part is slightly uphill. Please note that trains stop running at midnight (00:00h). Gavina Mar is on top of a gentle slope. Therefore, get your legs ready, and your camera for the views! 2. Some advice when visiting Barcelona and surroundings Information on Barcelona and surroundings: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/wv3/en/ Interesting to visit are, to name a few, the Sagrada Familia cathedral, the Park Güell, the Gothic quarter (old town) and Paseo de Gràcia. It is advisable to book entry tickets in advance, as they are hard to get close to the visit day. Barcelona is a visit must but can be tiring after a few visits. Thus the option of renting a car is a good one since there are nice/quiet places to visit near Barcelona (Tossa de Mar, Besalú, Vic, Girona, Montserrat, Cadaqués, Port Aventura, the Cava trail, El Masnou, etc.) Last but not least, take good care of your belongings in the public transport and while in the city 4. Things to do in Barcelona and around (with or without a car) 4.1 – Barcelona – (From Ocata train station, take the R1 train direction Barcelona, exit “Plaza de Catalunya”) visit Old city/cathedral (may also visit museums), Santa María del Mar church, seaside and Barceloneta. Return via ramblas (+ Boquería market) – walking tour (take R1 train back to Ocata from Plaza de Catalunya) 4.2 – Barcelona – (take the R1 line direction Barcelona, exit “El Clot”) visit the Sagrada Familia cathedral (tickets needed to go in), Hospital Sant Pau (buy tickets there and visit on your own), Avenida Diagonal, Paseo de Gracia (shopping areas and Gaudí Houses) – walking tour (take R1 train back to Ocata from Plaza de Catalunya) 4.3 – Barcelona – 2 day city bus tour (Blue tour and Red tour departing from Plaza de Catalunya – drop in/off at each stop) OR go directly to these places: Parc Güell (tickets needed), FC Barcelona stadium – Camp Nou (tickets needed), Tibidado (attraction fair/children; you can buy a day ticket or €1 ticket for each attraction) and Montjuic (Olympic games area & castle, no tickets needed) 4.4 – Barcelona – COSMO Caixa Science Museum (kids do not pay, adults pay around €5) – for a rainy day! (Take R1 line to Plaza de Catalunya and then the L7 metro line to Av. Tibidabo + walk 8 min). Evening plan: Magic Fountain at Plaza de España (closed between 11.01 and 28.02) 4.5 – Montserrat – mountain, monastery, trekking (take the train R1 line to Plaza de Catalunya, then the underground line L1 to Plaza de España; then take the train line R5 direction Manresa).
